Evenings cool quickly, dropping to the mid 40s, so layers matter more here than the daytime temperature would suggest. High-SPF sunscreen is important year-round at this elevation. Drinking more water than usual helps with the dry air. It's the best month of the year for walking the city, and on clear days you can see the volcanoes from the street.

Mexico City holds more than twenty-two million people and somehow never feels like it. Compared to life in the U.S., daily life in Mexico City runs on a different clock — later, longer, and more social. Lunch is the main meal and rarely happens before two, often stretching well past the hour you'd expect. Dinner starts at nine or ten. Streets that feel quiet in the afternoon fill up after dark, and plazas, parks, and sidewalk tables stay busy long into the evening.
