spanish beyond the classroom

From time at El Puente Bilingual to afternoons with local families, students have opportunities to hear, use, and experience Spanish in authentic settings—connecting the language they are learning with real people, relationships, and everyday life.

real costa rican connection

This trip goes beyond sightseeing. Families will be paired with City Friends, a local family who allows you to learn culture and connection in an authentic way! Think of your City Friends as a host family without the homestay. You'll be connected a few weeks before your trip and meet them at your welcome party.

adventure with purpose

Ziplining, waterfall hikes, jungle nights, wildlife, markets, and a private catamaran cruise bring plenty of adventure—balanced with experiences designed to deepen cultural understanding and create meaningful memories.

experience it together

Because this trip is built for your school community, students and parents get to experience it side by side. Kids deepen friendships, parents build community, and families return home with shared experiences that continue long after the trip ends.

Quepos is such a beautiful and friendly destination and Travec allows you to go deeper into an immersive travel experience far beyond a typical vacation. Because we were in a group, our children borrowed courage from the other kids and took off speaking Spanish with the locals.

Following our cooking lesson with Chef Eli, my ten-year-old said, "Speaking Spanish to someone who doesn't speak English gave me purpose and made me want to speak the best I could." I'm not sure how we'll ever top this travel experience!

day five

Free Day

A balanced itinerary means making room to slow down, too. Enjoy a free day with your family, spend time with your City Friends, relax by the pool, explore Quepos, or simply see where the day takes you.

day six

March 17, 2027

Kids Activity + Sukia Night Walk

Morning: Kids will spend the morning at El Puente Bilingual School with your Trip Leader and City Host, connecting with local students, practicing Spanish, and getting a glimpse into what school life looks like in Costa Rica. Depending on the day’s programming, students may join classes like Art or Gym or participate in a special activity planned with the school.

Evening: After dark, head into the rainforest for a guided night walk at Sukia Park. With flashlights and UV lights in hand, professional naturalists will help the group spot nocturnal wildlife such as red-eyed tree frogs, tarantulas, sleeping birds, and other creatures that come alive at night. The experience ends with a quiet, lights-out moment to take in the sounds of the jungle all around you.

day seven

March 18, 2027

Rural Community Exploration

Spend the day with families in the rural communities surrounding Quepos for a closer look at everyday life beyond the coast. You’ll cook local dishes together, make bracelets, hear stories, and learn more about the history, traditions, and rhythms of life in these communities.

The day will also include a thoughtful way to give back, guided by what our local partners say would be most useful at the time. Depending on current needs, that may look like helping with a beach clean-up, supporting a turtle release, or lending a hand with a community space—always with the goal of contributing in a respectful, meaningful, and sustainable way.

day nine

March 20, 2027

Departure Day

Based on your flight time, private transportation will be arranged for the journey back to San José and Juan Santamaría International Airport.

After a week of adventure, connection, new friendships, and plenty of Spanish along the way, it’s time to head home with full hearts and great memories. Hasta luego, Costa Rica!

where we stay

We place families between Quepos and Manuel Antonio, giving you easy access to both while still enjoying a comfortable home base in a safe, residential setting. From your accommodations, it’s an easy walk to the main road where you can catch the local bus for about $1 per ride, request an Uber, or use one of the trusted taxi contacts we provide.

All of our Quepos accommodations include air conditioning, a full kitchen, Wi-Fi, pool access, and laundry access—making it easy for families to settle in, spread out, and feel at home throughout the week.

**Accommodations are requested based on order of registration.

the people who make it personal

One of the biggest differences between a Travec trip and planning on your own is the people you have with you along the way. Your Trip Leader and City Host are there to help the week feel seamless, connected, and personal—from handling the little logistics to introducing you to the people, places, and everyday moments that make Quepos feel like more than a destination.

They’re your local guides, trusted resources, cultural connectors, and familiar faces throughout the week. By the end of the trip, they often feel less like “trip staff” and more like part of the experience itself.
